Throwback Thursday, The Big Reveal: Fig or Blueberry?!!

Blueberry  fig 2

Here it is, the moment you’ve been waiting for!

For the purposes of this special Throwback Thursday edition blog, I have gone back to weeks 1-11, which were pre-blog, to find two fruits to stand for “boy” and “girl.”  Thankfully, I had a blue option and a pink option with blueberry and fig, making it easier to do a cute recipe baby sex reveal (whew!).   (But I can’t resist the urge to include this link: Gendered colors are stupid )

I picked these recipes:

Roasted Figs with Fresh Ricotta

Cinnamon Sugar Blueberry Banana Bread

And the one served as dessert to Cliff, Shirley, Scott, Matt, and Laura was…

bread 2

The Verdict:

Difficulty: Easy.  Hardest part was waiting until dessert to serve it and tell everybody!

Taste: Perhaps because I used frozen blueberries and didn’t dry them off enough, the bottom half of the bread was pretty soggy, sort of underbaked.  This resulted in Scott, who initially declined a piece with “I don’t eat cake,” to devour a slice as soon as he realized that it was basically half batter.  As a master of Quality Control, I was annoyed by that aspect, but the top half was pretty tasty (and the cinnamon sugar crust was delicious; I will definitely be trying that with other breads in the future).

Highlights: Cliff saying “Thank goodness it’s a boy!” when I told him the alternate dessert option; this adorable card from the grandparents-to-be (yes, they had a “Baby Girl Lease” card ready as well just in case):

Can’t wait to meet ya, little buddy!
